Case Study 3: Implant Prosthesis

This case demonstrates a patient who presented with a hopeless dentition due to dental decay.  The treatment provided was full mouth tooth extraction and immediate "healing dentures" at the time of the extractions, followed by  a conventional upper denture and lower removable implant retained prostheses definitively.

  • Immediate healing denture 1 week after extractions and insertion.

  • A view of the underside on the lower removable implant retained prosthesis.  The blue circles are the attachment components, which "snap" on and off of the implants.  Because the two implants will give the patient considerably more function and chewing efficiency than a conventional lower denture, metal reinforcement in required in the prosthesis to prevent breakage overload during chewing.

  • The gold parts emerging through the gum tissue are the implant attachments which snap to those in the removable prosthesis.

  • Healed upper jaw which will accommodate a conventional complete denture.

  • Upper complete denture- tissue contacting surface.

  • Panoramic x-ray showing the implants which have integrated to the bone.

  • Final Prostheses in place.
